As part of my ongoing effort to find better alternatives for sippy cups for my toddler, I’ve been putting a variety of them to the test. I have one of each of the newest bpa free plastic cups as well as now two stainless steel ones we’ve been throwing around the house in a bevy of tests. Conducted by my two year old who has no mercy. First up, and the one I was most excited to try is the Boon No Spill Sippy Cup. It’s visually appealing with it’s cool design and my toddler immediately liked it for it’s unconventional shape. I also was happy to see it it only two pieces. Anyone who has experience with sippies will tell you that the cups with sometimes upwards of 7 pieces are a pain to wash and to keep track of. Another plus, the price. This in the world of sippies, comes to us at the bargain price of about $5.99. Compared to it’s competitors which can run up to $15 or more. I like the fact that you can get a cute little sippy cup like this one for an affordable price.
The cup has an easy flow, for an older kid was a plus but it could be too fast for younger babies. My two year old took to it immediately (after a quick demonstration). What I like about this shape was that drinking was a little bit of a novelty for him so he drank more water than usual, which is never a bad thing.
The part everyone wants to know about. Does it leak? No… but it drips. The cup, if left on its side doesn’t leak from the seam between the spout and the body. However if held upside down for more than a second or two some water does drip out of the mouthpiece. I found my toddler standing in the living room holding it upside down while it drip drip dripped on the carpet. Most sippy cups do drip a little and this one was no different. With this cup, I would reserve it for meal time use so it’s not being thrown around the living room leaving wet spots all over the place.
The Bottom Line: Overall, this is a really cool little cup, and with it’s unique design and affordable price tag, I’m going to keep it as part of our permanent collection. But it’ll stay in the kitchen or where I can keep an eye on it. No dragging it around the house for us. A big thank you to The Soft Landing for providing the test cup for us. How easy is it to clean? It looks like it has hard to reach areas that wouldn’t get clean even with a bottle brush.
It’s easier to clean than it looks. A bottle brush gets in there fine and its much more translucent than it appears in the photos so you can see what you’re washing.
