I’ve seen a lot of buzz on the Internet, mainly on mom written blogs voicing their concern with holiday shopping and about their anxiety with buying toys from China. I empathize, having to shop for my own toddler (Christmas and birthday in the same week). I have found dozens of toy guides around that are totally useful and also ran across another site that has a toy list of items not made in China. Since all these wonderful people have taken the time to compile these lists, I’d just like to point out a couple.
Not Made In China – a collection of China-free toys and household products. She’s got list for all age groups… great website if shopping China-free this season.
Cool Mom Picks, Safer Toy Guide 2007: They’ve tracked down “some of the best handcrafted, locally made, organic, fair trade, or simply safer alternatives for younger children”. Word.
In The Trenches of Motherhood – Holiday Gift Guide: She has seven children, and she knows her stuff. She has some fun ideas and she has made it a continuously updating category on her site.
The Daily Green 500 Toys Not Made in China: This list has been linked from the sidebar for a bit but I wanted to put it here since some of us might buy or kids something other than wood. Not to mention it’s sometimes tough to get gift givers to choose something safe. Not everyone is aware! They also have a list called 250 Lead Free Toys Made in the USA.
Z Recommends 2007 Toy Guide: I’ve posted this one before but it should be on the list because it’s a good one.
Mama Speaks Holiday Git Guide for 2007: Another great list!
