Naturally, training for any kind of athletic event requires you change some of your eating habits. Being a woman, eating healthy plays a roll in managing your weight. But I’ve found that once I looked at the way I eat as a way to nourish the body I am putting through rigorous fitness challenges – the weight stays manageable without a lot of “dieting”. I’m no stranger to weight struggles… so fitness and eating clean healthy food has been the way forward for me. I’m not perfect, I snack and I eat things I shouldn’t (ohhh chips and salsa how I love you). But on a weekly basis, I try to keep healthy food and snacks around for me and the kids. But we can all get into food and snack ruts… finding something healthy that piques your interest can sometimes be a challenge.
NatureBox was a new discovery for me. as part of the Go Green Get Fit Challenge I was sent a box from NatureBox’s subscription service to check out. The box arrived and my kids TORE into it like a gift on Christmas morning. Our July box contained 6 good sized bags of snacks including some delicious Lemon Pucker Pistachios which I didn’t get many of since my kids ate the entire bag. Garden Tomato almonds with a savory tomato crunchiness that ended up as snacks in my kids lunchboxes, and mine. One of the other bags was filled with Summer BBQ Sunflower seeds which a smoky rich flavor. I added them to my salads for a nice little added iron rich crunch. Snacking is a big part of our calorie intake during the day and while it’s important to feed yourself, what you put in your body should be worth the calories! Nuts and dried fruit offer vitamins, minerals and healthy fats that the body needs to stay strong and recover from activity. They choose only natural and minimally processed if processed at all, ingredients and each month offers a different variety of snacking options.
I really like the idea of the NatureBox subscription service for new healthy snack surprises to keep you guessing and nourished without the same ho-hum things. I think this would also make an incredible gift for someone over the holidays. *hint hint* Santa.
