Merrell Lithe Glove from PlanetShoes.com

Our Go Green Get Fit Challenge sponsor PlanetShoes.com is an online shoe reseller that carries brands that are more environmentally friendly.  They cater to all walks of footwear consumers, from vegan to just those of us looking to avoid PVC.  PlanetShoes.com sent me a pair of Merrell Lithe Gloves to test out which are minimalist / barefoot sneakers and are also vegan.  No animal leathers or materials used in these babies.

Any barefoot runners, walkers, fitness people out there? I have never tried it and always thought it sounded controversial.  Some say it strengthens the foot and leg muscles differently.  Some say it sets you up for injury and fractures.  I think there is a safe way to adjust to it so you can avoid injuries and stress.  The idea is to retrain your feet and legs to walk and run properly with good alignment and foot pressure.

What I Like: Right off the bat, these shoes are really colorful and for someone who is really loving the new neon sneaker trend this year, these were super cool.  The pair I have are in the bright turquoise blue and look really great on. (Admittedly I love the hot pink and purple too – they are all really stylish) I like the materials are free of animal leathers and PVC – they use molded EVA and rubber in the main construction.  They definitely look awesome. They are really light, so they are great for warm weather and were easy to slip on and off.  Bopped around the grocery store in them without any issues.

What I Didn’t Love: I don’t do “negative” and really, I am such a newbie at barefoot shoes.  But they are not “oh yeah so comfy” right off the bat. To test them out I started with short walks with my dog  in them.  Over time they become more pliable and wearable.  I wouldn’t sky write that they are the most comfortable shoe in the world, but I think that’s part of the point.  To teach your feet to use muscles that they don’t normally rely on. I am learning to love them and part of it is retraining your brain to work with them too. I did wear them to the store a few times and forgot all about them on my feet.  I need to learn more about acclimating to barefoot footwear.

PlanetShoes.com has a wode range of more eco-friendly shoes and I love that you can search by vegan, made in the usa, etc. Check them out!

I was given a pair of sneakers from PlanetShoes.com to test and enjoy. All opinions expressed are my own.
