I’ve been a HappyBaby customer before… when my second baby was born over a year ago. When he seemed ready to start solids I went right for HappyBaby’s frozen organic baby food and their Organic Puffs to get him started. He loved them and so did I. They dissolve easily and are fortified with Iron, Vitamin D and Calcium. Not to mention they are also Certified Organic and are packaged in recyclable BPA free packaging. So when I got an email from HappyBaby recently I was more than happy to try out and share with you their new line of Gluten Free Organic Puffs and Yogurt Melts!

HappyBaby’s new Gluten Free Organic Puffs come in two great flavors, Strawberry and Sweet Potato. Why is Gluten Free important? People are becoming more aware of food allergens in kids early on, so its critical to cater to that set of kiddos!  HappyBaby just released their version of Yogurt Melts as well, which are also gluten free (not dairy free) and are low in sugar. They are also fortified with prebiotics and probiotics for added digestive wellness. I handed a few of these yogurt melts to my 1 year old and he gobbled them up faster than I could give them to him. He really loves the Mixed Berry flavor!

I was really thrilled to find HappyBaby Organic Baby Food pouches at my local store too. While my son is eating basically everything on his own, I still buy these types of baby foods for 2 reasons. One is they’re a great way to make sure he’s getting the veggies and vitamins he needs. They are similar in their competitors selections but they seem to have found a way to add even more colorful foods our kids might not eat, such as green beans and beets. The other reason is the packaging allows for easy portability and self feeding. He can eat these all by himself.  A bonus is that they seem to be a bit cheaper than some other brands. I cleaned out my local Target yesterday because they were all 99 cents or less (versus other brands that are around $1.39 – $1.89). He had a pouch of Blueberry, Beets and Bananas this morning and sucked it down like it was ice cream. I really love the HappyBaby company’s philosophy and strive to make healthy, organic and safely packaged food for our babies and kids.

All of their packaging is BPA and Phthalate free and in most cases fully or partially recyclable.  Some containers are also made with recycled material. Their frozen meals are packaged in 100% virgin polypropylene and are recyclable. Additionally, ALL of their foodscontain no pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, no genetic modification, and no preservatives.

      Birds & Bees Bottle Cup

I’m slowly edging away from the land of bottles and sippy cups.  And on some level, I’m happy about this.  But I always come across products and wish that I could still get in on the action.   Such is the case with the Birds and Bees bottle and sippy all-in-one, made by Earthlust.   While it’s certainly not the first and only stainless baby bottle, I haven’t yet seen one that is both.   Though, truth be told, I’ve been out of the loop, given that I had a lot of stuff already, when my second was born.   I will say that this one is by far the prettiest and the sleekest looking.

Sippy cups and bottles are a racket.  Not to mention, they have so many parts and you end up with 47 different cups with different parts and forget it.   I don’t have to cry the tears of the “children’s cabinet” to you, do I?

Obviously as a mom of two, I’m always looking for ways to streamline things and sippy cups are a bit of a thorn in my side.  This is a perfect way to eliminate some of the mess.   One bottle, later turned into a sippy cup, and you have no need for anything else.  With this cup, you get everything you need:  one bottle nipple, one sippy cup nipple, a standard ring (for the bottle days),  a set of handles, for your toddler’s transition to the sippy cup and of course the lid.   That’s it.  There are no valves, no special parts.

Since we’re in the process of phasing out bottles, I didn’t get to try out the bottle portion of it.  However, when I opened the box, my daughter promptly ran off with the cup, and tried to pilfer it as hers.   It’s lighter than to an equivalent, Foogo, which I also love.  Neither of my children could hold one until they were a little older.  This has some heft for abuse, but it’s not nearly as heavy.   Also, did I mention, NO VALVES?  Another thing I noticed, and maybe this wasn’t intentional on creators, Adam and Allison’s part, but, the lid, is just big enough to use as a trainer cup for a small child.   Or, if you’re out somewhere and are making friends with the water cooler, you can use the lid for a spare cup, and skip wasting paper ones. See?  I’m saving waste AND giving you useful tips!

The price is a little steep, at $25, but really, this is the only bottle you’ll ever need, and even the cost of replacement parts is very minimal, making this a long term, cost effective alternative to those 47 sippy cups and 8 bottles that have cost you an arm and a leg, and are taking up valuable cabinet space.

And if you’re lucky, one SafeMama reader will win one of these fabulous bottles.

Lately I have really been into finding products that are less plastic and more centered on utilizing safer materials like stainless steel, bamboo, wood, ceramic and glass.  I am on a glass kick lately and even bought my own glass water bottle which I have been loving (more on that later). So when the new EIO Kids Cup came out I was really interested in checking it out.

The awesome people behind The Glass Baby Bottle sent me an EIO Kids Cup to check out.  I was really eager to check it out too because after looking at the “cup benefits” image they have, it looks a lot more complicated than it really is.

Essentially the cup is a glass 8 oz jar.  But the great part is that it comes equipped with a silicone gripping sleeve that can come off for washing if need be.  The cap screws on utilizing the threads of the jar to hold in place. The cap features an inward slant to create a spout effect.  This isn’t a spill proof sippy cup, but more of a bigger kid training cup.  Even though my son is old enough to use a regular cup, I still like to cap him at the table in case of accidents.  You do need to be extra careful when screwing on the lid.  If it’s not on perfectly, liquid leaks out from under the cap.  But if it’s on nice and snug and level it works great.

There are no valve’s or hard to clean spaces so you can hand wash easily or run through the dishwasher in the top rack.  It’s the perfect size for little hands and my son really liked having his own glass cup at dinner.  I think it goes without saying that this cup is free of BPA, PVC and Phthalates and there is no risk of any kind of plastic leaching since it’s glass.

The cup comes in bright orange (the color my son chose), purple, and green and is pretty cute if you ask me!

Get It: You can purchase your own EIO Kids Cup at TheGlassBabyBottle.com!

            Win It!

The Glass Baby Bottle is giving away one EIO Kids cup in Green to a lucky SafeMama reader! Yay!

            Giveaway closed.

Congratulations commenter #4 Kari!  Thanks to everyone who entered and tweeted the giveaway!  Thank you The Glass baby Bottle for the great giveaway!

I really love dual purpose products when it comes to parenting – it just tickles me when something meant for one thing has a totally separate use.  I also try my best to be somewhat stylish on a day to day basis.  I know it’s hard – believe me there are days when I am appalled that I dropped my son off at school having not showered in two days (I’m admitting that because I know I’m not the only one!).  But now that my second child is no longer an infant requiring round the clock feeding, I can actually put myself together and look somewhat cute.  Which is why I adore this new teething necklace from Sonny & Reed.

They contacted me and I was all for checking out their product because it’s jewelry and you all know how much I loved that teething bling necklace I reviewed earlier this year.  So I was super psyched to check it out.  This is a really great piece.  It’s made with an FDA approved acrylic (though they aren’t spilling on what exactly it is) and have assured me is its BPA, PVC, Phthalate and Lead free.  The beads are large and do not pass through the “choke tube” so no worries on that front. They are really quite stylish while being simple and make a fabulous statement.  They are solid beads and have tiny “nibs” on one side to soothe baby’s gums while they chew. So useful!  Anyone who’s ever had a teething baby on their hip will tell you that always having something around for them to chew on is a life saver.  Better it be a stylish necklace than your finger.

Here’s the part where it pains me to say that the sample I received is GREAT, but my son is kind of past that whole phase where it would be useful.  He’d much rather be crawling on the floor than chewing on my necklace (that makes me so sad!).  So, I am going to offer up the sample I got for a giveaway to one of you.  :) (I can assure you I haven’t worn it, other than to try it out for length and style  – and for the photo.  I have also not let me drooly kid chew on it.)  I packed it back up and make the painful decision to give it away to someone with a teething baby who needs some style.  Is that you??

Get It: If you can’t stand waiting to see if you won a giveaway then I urge you to go to Sonny & Reed’s website and pick one up for yourself.  They would make an excellent gift too.  They come in three colors: The clear (which is what I am giving away), a pretty blue and black (I think the black is my favorite).

              WIN IT!

You can have my Sonny & Reed Teething Necklace sample!  I promise I don’t have cooties and that no one has ever chewed on it.  It’s made with the clear beads so you can coordinate it with anything!

              Congratulations Elizabeth, commenter #82!

Down here in Florida, even though it’s still technically Spring – it feels very much like Summer! It’s hot!!!  Hot days, beach time, pool swimming, sand boxes… we’re outside all the time. So I figure to welcome Summer into our lives properly, and to highlight one of the products gracing our 2010 Sunscreen Cheat Sheet, I’d talk to you about the new line of skin care for babies and kids by Episencial. Episencial’s Sunny Sunscreen in SPF 35 is a new member of our cheat sheet this year and I think it’s a great addition to the list for a few reasons.

You get a lot of the benefits of a more natural and organic based product without breaking your wallet in half to get it.  One of my other favorites costs me upwards of $26 – $30 retail and I love the product but holy cow that’s a lot of money for a sunscreen.   What their products don’t have is parabens, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, SLS, or Fragrances (No Gluten or Nut Oils either).  What they DO have is organic ingredients and natural sunscreens that are non-nano in nature, providing an SPF of 35 for their Sunny SunscreenWhat they also don’t have is a huge price tag.  $15 bucks for a sunscreen is much better than $30.  I’ll be forthcoming and say the Episencial line isn’t 100% chemical free but they use good practices and their creator Kim Walls has answered a TON of my annoying questions about their ingredients.  And instead of getting defensive or annoyed, she explained everything to me at great length and sent me a handful of products  – a Sunny Sunscreen to try out myself and a Gift Pack of products for me to give away to one of YOU!

First I want to tell you about my experience with Episencial’s Sunny Sunscreen.  My baby has pretty sensitive skin – moreso than my older son who hasn’t ever had a skin reaction to anything aside from mosquitoes. The baby however gets eczema and is generally rashy. So when it came time to try sunscreens I knew I was in for a trial. I started with what I already had on hand (Badger – which I love for my other son because its really water resistant) but what I noticed is that the stuff I tried would make his skin turn pink, so I worried it would be irritated.  I tried out Episencials Sunny Sunscreen and really loved it. It goes on like a lotion (not sticky like some other natural brands), has basically no smell to it and protected just as well as the others.  What bugs me about some natural sunscreens is the smell.  All those essential oils and butters can get stinky! Not with this… no smell, no sticky, no weird whiteness and great protection.  And I love that I don’t have to take out a second mortgage to afford it.

Get It: I heard through the grapevine that Episencial’s skin care line is starting to become available at Target, though I haven’t seen it here in Florida just yet. In the meantime you can order it from their website Episencial.com

                WIN IT!

Episencial sent me a great Gift Pack of products to give to one of you.  One winner will take home a full size tube of Sunny Sunscreen SPF35, a tube of Protective Face Balm (with SPF 6), and their Soothing Cream for eczema and bothered skin.

                To Enter (Required):

Visit Episencial.com and let me know which product you think you would love to try out!

Congratulations Elizabeth, commenter #57!  Thanks to everyone who entered and to Episencial for providing a great prize!

null We had previously done a review on Kinderville’s awesome line of products.  Our personal stash is on heavy rotation.  We love their stuff.  It’s bright, colorful, attractive, best of all, 100% safe.  Kinderville’s products are free from phthalates, BPA, lead, and nitrosamine free.  Because it’s 100% silicone, it’s basically unbreakable, which is key when you have a toddler who always manages to drop his plate.

And as if their products weren’t great enough, they’ve added more great products, including bigger storage jars, freezer trays and ice pop molds.   The freezer trays hold 2 ounce portions of food, which I personally find to be a more perfect size than the typical one ounce portions.  I wish I would have had these when I was looking for freezer trays for making my daughters food.

The ice pop molds are also great because they require no sticks.  They sport a tapered design so that your child can push up the ice pop as needed, which leaves less of a mess than an a popsicle on a stick.

                  The Giveaway:

We’re giving a way three sets of Kinderville’s products to ONE lucky winner.  This prize includes:

                  • One set of bigger bites storage jars
                  • One set of little bites popsicle molds
                  • one set of little bites freezer trays

criblightI have another great giveaway for our SafeMama readers from BabyBjörn!  Have you ever set up a pack n’ play?  I can’t tell you how many times I struggled to get them set up even though I’ve done it 100 times, I still stand there yanking on the side rails trying to get them to stay taught.  I eventually get it but what a pain.  BabyBjörn has a great product called the BabyBjörn Travel Crib Light.  Which is a lightweight portable travel crib that sets up in seconds.  Don’t believe me? Check out their clever video demonstrating how fast and easy it is.  That looks a lot easier than mine is to set up!

It weighs only 11lbs and is light and easy to carry in its carrying case. Soft fabric makes it snug and cozy for your child. Both the mattress cover and the bed fabric can be machine-washed. The mattress cover and all fabric parts that come into contact with your child have been approved in accordance with the Oeko-Tex Standard .

BabyBjörn is giving away 5 brand spanking new BabyBjörn Travel Crib Light‘s to 5 of our lucky readers.

babybjornBoy, do we have some great giveaways for you.  This first one comes to you from the makers of BabyBjörn!  Baby wearing is really popular right now and as the mother of a new baby and an almost 4 year old, baby wearing saves my day.  Hands free is the way to go.   So imagine my delight when I learned about BabyBjörn’s new baby carrier made of organic cotton.  The fabric is Oeko-Tex certified, and also meets GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) which regulates the use of chemicals in the entire production process of textiles. The organic carriers are available inn both the Original and the Active style carrier.

BabyBjörn’s have been around forever and for good reason.  They’re made exceptionally well and provide back support for both baby and Mom or Dad. The baby carrier provides proper support for a small child’s back and head, and ensures that the child’s legs and arms are in a physiologically correct position. When the child is older, the head support can be folded down so that the child can be carried facing forward, allowing him to look around. And it is a sharp looking carrier if I do say so.

BabyBjörn is giving away 5 brand spanking new Baby Carrier Active Organic‘s to 5 of our lucky readers. Giveaway closed.
