By popular demand you requested our input on the Whole Foods store brand of body care 365 Everyday Value. On a recent pilgrimage to Whole Foods I decided to check it out because hey, I am all for cheaper, yet safe, skin care. That natural stuff can really add up! I checked out the 365 body lotion and the body wash to evaluate the ingredients.
I WANT to tell you that this is the answer to our organic prayers but alas. It is not. I will not say it’s totally awful because it has some very redeemable qualities. These products are free of parabens, phthalates, SLS, and petrochemicals… and the price point is unmatched. A huge bottle of lotion for less than $3 bucks? Yes please! The products also carry the Whole Foods Premium Body Care seal of approval.
The bad news is these products contain a bevy of ingredients that aren’t “natural” by our standards. For example cetyl alcohol which is the emulsifier that makes lotion more watery and smooth. This ingredient (and others like it) is not by any means natural and is commonly contaminated with 1,4 dioxane. (See this great article about body lotion on Bubble& Bee) … so if you are wanting something truly safe, stick with the really natural stuff. If you’re more concerned with price while avoiding the big risk ingredients like parabens and phthalates than this brand will cover that for you.
For the sake of reporting I tried both of these products on myself. The lotion (I opted for a citrus scent) smooths on well and does have an effective moisturizing effect. Even my husband liked it. Similarly, the body wash foams up miraculously and the lavender scent I tried is subtle (but not as lavendery as other products).
Bottom Line: These are free of the big “avoid” ingredients but aren’t chemical free. For the price you definitely get what you pay for. Effective products that are safer than most mainstream brands. If you want truly natural skin care, opt for something else but expect to pay more than $3.

I haven’t really found too many shower gels that I like lately. They’re either full of chemicals, or they’re organic and watery, or they just suck overall. I reluctantly picked up a tube of Kiss My Face’s Sudz Organic Shower Gel at Target this month since it was the first time something new was in the natural beauty aisle. Typically, I want to like Kiss My Face’s products because I grew up using them. But some of their products contain parabens and they aren’t totally natural all the time so I opt for other stuff. But I saw it and on an impulse (after reading the label) decided to give it a whirl.
I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. I’m not going to pass out from euphoria over it but it meets most of my criteria for shower gel. It must be almost all natural, it must be in a nice scent and it must lather. The problem with most organic shower stuff is the lack of foam. Not so much the case here. I absolutely love citrus scents so the Sweet Orange & Lime scent was right up my alley. Its bubbles up nice, smells great and I feel quite refreshed after using it. I also used it in conjunction with some Kiss My Face Sudz bar soap and I step out of the steam feeling fresh and clean. I’ll probably pick this up again in other scents since it has a great price point. The Grapefruit & Lemongrass sounds divine. Overall, thumbs up!

I’ve gotten used to the subtle scents of natural beauty products. In a way, this is a good thing, as I feel as if phthalates have made us hard wired to think that we need our body wash to smell heavily like fake floral or fruit scents. I like smelling clean, not like my great aunt’s perfume cabinet. That said, because you’re hard wired to want to smell like a fruit salad, sometimes, that’s not such a bad thing. Good smells are appealing, and are great memory triggers. Sometimes, you just want to smell like a girl.
Enter the 100% Pure beauty line. I came across this line of products and saw a pink grapefruit body wash and I had to try it. I don’t know what it is about me and pink grapefruit, but I love it. I had been looking for one about a year before all of the chemically laden bath companies released them. What can I say, I’m ahead of my time.
When I first poured some of the body wash on my washcloth, I was surprised. It’s kind of…watery. I was a little disappointed because I figured that watery = no lather. I worried over nothing. It held a nice mild lather with one single application and left my skin feeling soft and smooth. In fact, when I shaved afterwards, my skin felt great. Not tight and dry like it normally does.
I topped my shower off with one of their awesome body creams, in honey pear, which was just like the old days. It was so fragrant and nice. And you know what? My skin is STILL smooth after being in jeans all day. And no lotion has ever done that. Especially when winter has appeared on our front door overnight and the dry heat has been running.
The 100% Pure products contain no synthetic chemicals or fillers of any kind. Everything is scented with fruit extracts and smells great. They have a wide variety of products, including fruit pigmented cosmetics, a full line of facial care and body care. This is a product line that I will always keep on hand.

I picked up a travel set of products from Nature’s Paradise not too long ago. I was intrigued in this Certified Organic product line and they had a vast array of yummy smells to pick from. I loaded up on Creamy Coconut Lotion (very moisturizing and tropical smelling), Tropical Mango Body Cream and their Pomegranate Love Body Wash.
This company has a wide range of body care products and if you look at the ingredients label on any product, it looks more like a fresh fruit brunch menu rather than an ingredients list. I think one of my favorite products in the Creamy Coconut Lotion which is a really rich creamy lotion that absorbs quick and leaves you feeling almost powdery soft and smelling like fresh coconuts. It doesn’t get much more natural than that! I looooove the smell. I have a small crush on their travel size body wash too because it comes in a foam pump so I’ve been using it up at the gym. I hate dragging loofahs or washcloths with me and the instant foam makes getting in a quick spa treatment possible. Who doesn’t like to smell of fresh pomegranates after a workout?
All of Nature’s Paradise products are Certified Organic, are completely Vegan, not tested on animals, and free of icky synthetic ingredients, petrochemicals or artifical fragrances. Just pure awesome natural products. Nature’s Paradise carries a whole Baby Line as well. I haven’t tried them but I hear Jessica Alba has!
