John Masters Week: Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner

I have to say that I still have a hard time with the lack of lather in chemical free shampoos.   It took me a long time to get used to it, and while I’ve adjusted, it’s still not my favorite thing.  And if you’re making the switch, you have to realize that without the addition of SLS’s or other petrochemicals, you’re not going to find the lather that you would with conventional shampoos.   But with time, you will become accustomed.   If there’s one thing I can say, it’s that lather, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s getting your hair cleaner.  In fact, we’ve become programmed to think that, but in reality, what it’s really doing is stripping your hair of all of the good things that it needs.

Again, it took me a long time to find something suitable for my hair, and once I tried the Avocado and Lavender Intensive Conditioner, I knew that the rest of the products had to work equally as well.

I settled on the Zinc & Sage Shampoo with conditioner.   It has a hint of vanilla scent to it, which I really like and it does lather a little bit better than some other shampoos that I’ve tried (but don’t expect anything like you’re used to).   It doesn’t leave my hair feeling stringy or dry and I don’t need gobs of it to get some lather.  Another thing I’ve noticed is that this is one of the only shampoos I can use when I want to blow my hair straight and my hair still looks like my old school Redken days.

If you’re looking to make the switch to a chemical free conditioner, here are a few tips to help you make the switch:

  • Give it some time.  It’s going to be an adjustment.  It could take upwards of a couple of months for you to find something that works for you.  But be patient.
  • Use less.  Sure there are other less expensive shampoos out there but you still don’t need that much shampoo.  We always seem to think that more is better, when in reality, it’s not.
  • Invest in some samples.   Don’t want to purchase a full sized bottle?  We don’t blame you.  It can get pretty pricey (believe me, our wallets have felt it).  Look for samples, or email a company and see if you can purchase them for a small fee.   That way you don’t end up wasting a whole bottle of shampoo because you hate it.

Get it: You can purchase this shampoo and all of John Masters products directly from their website.

And of course, keep reading, because we’ll be announcing a huge giveaway on Friday.
