I took a much needed, mental health break from writing.  I hope you’ll all forgive me for that.  I sometimes feel pressure to do articles to fit the seasons and holidays despite having churned out the same baloney year after year. My new philosophy here is to write what’s useful for you.  I’m sure you all were waiting on baited breath for my safe Halloween posts (not)… instead I want to focus on what will make your life easier rather than more expensive. SafeMama has many plates spinning over here but rest assured, I am refreshed and hopeful that the rest of this year, which I cringe to say is now officially “Holiday Season”, will be a great end to the year.  In the meantime, I wanted to kick off my refreshed sense of energy with my grandmother’s very easy can free (and bpa free) method of cranberry sauce.  I shared this a few years ago with a few other great recipes for Thanksgiving.  This is my spin on my grandmother’s recipe with a little spice kick.

SafeMama’s Cranberry Sauce

Directions: In a large saucepan, mix water, orange juice & sugar.  Stir until dissolved over medium heat.  Dump in cranberries and zest an orange into the pan.  Bring to a boil, reduce heat and then boil gently, stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes. During this time you can add the cinnamon and nutmeg.  Remove from heat and pour into a glass bowl.  Let cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate.  Best made the day before (says Grandma… and its actually true, plus its one less thing to do on Turkey Day).  Of course, there are a zillion cranberry sauce recipes on Pinterest but this one is tried and true.  I make it every year! My friends at Wild Mint are hosting a great challenge for the month of November, cleverly called “No-Can-Ber“.  They are posting some great recipes and will have an exciting giveaway coming up.  Go check it out!
