Holiday Wishes from SafeMama.com
Filed Under Website News | 2 Comments
I hope everyone has had safe and wonderful holidays with your families this year! I want to take this time to thank our readers for your continued support of SafeMama.com and for understanding what we do is a labor of love. This website is close to my heart and I have such fun doing it. This year was crazy for us with myself and Statia both having new babies added to our families. Time has been scarce but well spent falling in love with our babies. Thank you for being patient with the lack of posting and for sticking with us while we get back on track.
My goal in 2010 is to get back on it with regular writing and I have many great things planned for the site including hopefully a redesign to make our content more accessible. I have a few new cheat sheets we’re working on and we are going to reinvent LovelySafeMama.com into something fun and independent. I’ll also be attending BlogHer ‘10 in New York City in August so hopefully I get to meet some of you in person!
Thank you for reading and supporting SafeMama.com … we wish you and your families all the best in 2010! Happy New Year!

Infant Carrier Cart Seats Recalled due to Fall Hazard
Filed Under Car Safety, Product Recalls, Product Safety | 1 Comment
I noticed this recall in my email, and as you know, we don’t typically post an article about every recall but when it comes to bigger items and massive recalls like car seats and cribs I try to bring it up. I know how busy we all mare being parents or grandparents that sometimes these things go unnoticed, so I wanted to post it before the holiday madness. This latest recall involves 447,000+ car seats made by Dorel Juvenille Group which includes the following brands: Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney branded infant car seat/carriers. You can check your particular seat against the list of model numbers on the CPSC website.
The recall is for infant seats/carriers and involvesthe child restraint handle on the seats which can loosen and come off, posing a fall hazard to infants. The CPSC suggests not using the seat until receiving a repair kit from the Dorel Juvenille Group.
Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Dorel Juvenile Group at (866) 762-3316 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.djgusa.com/safety_notice

Awesome Holiday Giveaway from MightyNest.com
Filed Under Giveaways Coupons, Toy Safety | 105 Comments
The great people from MightyNest.com have a fantastic giveaway for our SafeMama readers this week. If you haven’t noticed, we skipped the Safer Toy Guide this year. Not because we don’t care, but more because we all have new babies at home and well, time is limited. So in lieu we’ve been doing giveaways to help highlight some of the fantastic vendors we support. One of those is MightyNest.com which is a great site for information on living a healthier lifestyle as well as a shop to get safe toys, feeding gear and clothing for your sustainable little ones.
They have so generously offered two amazing items for two of our lucky readers. Here’s what is up for grabs… First prize going home with one lucky winner is…
Mobile Home by Grimm’s Spiel & Holt Design which features toys handmade in Germany out of solid, natural wood using water based dyes. This 14 piece doll home set comes with a felt cover with a string making it easy to carry and take with you! The mobile home is ingenious in that it breaks down into individual pieces that can be mixed with other toys and dolls and then packs up into something so portable. Plus it’s super adorable. I know several little girls that would love this!

Our second winner gets to take home two adorable puzzles also made by Grimm’s Spiel & Holt Design. A Sailboat puzzle and Car puzzle, both made of natural wood and water based dyes. What’s nice about these is that they serve a dual purpose.. puzzle and building blocks. My son has spend countless hours with wood blocks and I have no doubt he’d do the same with these. With two puzzles kids often mix and match them into unique and creative creations. They are also one of those toys you have around forever, that add to a child’s room decor rather than clutter it up with plastic junk.

Teething Bling: Safe for baby, stylish for mommy!
Filed Under Product Reviews, Product Safety | 9 Comments
When I have a new baby around, like many, I tend to focus more on the baby than on myself and my appearance is well… lacking in polish. I run out the door to drop one kid off at preschool while I rush off to the grocery store to get shopping done before I have to pick him up again, then rush home to shower, squeeze in some work while the baby naps (if you call 20 minutes a nap… sheesh) and then supervise the kids until dinner time relief. Did you see any time in that schedule for primping? Yeah, me either. I’m lucky if I slap on some mascara and lip balm. During this time of m life I rely on smoke and mirrors to appear I have my ish together so I’m always on the lookout for things that can add to my personal style without requiring time.
I heard of Teething Bling a while ago, before I was even pregnant with my second son, and I knew I wanted to get one. They look like a super stylish piece of jewelry… and well , they are. The disc on their fabulous pendants are about 2 inches wide so they make a proper statement. But the beauty of it is that they’re made of food-safe, phthalate-free, federally-approved silicone so they double as a safe teether for baby.
I wasn’t sure how effective they’d be but for he price I knew I’d give it a try. I am so glad I bought one because baby loves it, he always has something to chew on and I am never without something to give him. He’s yet to get his first tooth so he’s constantly jamming everything in his mouth. I’ve gotten several compliments on my bling and a few moms have said “what a great idea!”. And it is!
Ive taken to wearing it everyday to boost my appearance, while having a handy teether around. No digging in the diaper bag, no searching the house for something, its just there ready for baby. I bought a round donut pendant in a pretty turqoise (called Jade), but I have my eye on the Mother of Pearl too. They come on a black cord with a breakaway safety clasp. I know what will be in my stocking this year… Teething Bling!
Get It: I bought my bling at my favorite spot The Soft Landing!

Kinderville Giveaway
Filed Under Giveaways Coupons | 119 Comments
We had previously done a review on Kinderville’s awesome line of products. Our personal stash is on heavy rotation. We love their stuff. It’s bright, colorful, attractive, best of all, 100% safe. Kinderville’s products are free from phthalates, BPA, lead, and nitrosamine free. Because it’s 100% silicone, it’s basically unbreakable, which is key when you have a toddler who always manages to drop his plate.
And as if their products weren’t great enough, they’ve added more great products, including bigger storage jars, freezer trays and ice pop molds. The freezer trays hold 2 ounce portions of food, which I personally find to be a more perfect size than the typical one ounce portions. I wish I would have had these when I was looking for freezer trays for making my daughters food.
The ice pop molds are also great because they require no sticks. They sport a tapered design so that your child can push up the ice pop as needed, which leaves less of a mess than an a popsicle on a stick.
The Giveaway:
We’re giving a way three sets of Kinderville’s products to ONE lucky winner. This prize includes:
- One set of bigger bites storage jars
- One set of little bites popsicle molds
- one set of little bites freezer trays

I have another great giveaway for our SafeMama readers from BabyBjörn! Have you ever set up a pack n’ play? I can’t tell you how many times I struggled to get them set up even though I’ve done it 100 times, I still stand there yanking on the side rails trying to get them to stay taught. I eventually get it but what a pain. BabyBjörn has a great product called the BabyBjörn Travel Crib Light. Which is a lightweight portable travel crib that sets up in seconds. Don’t believe me? Check out their clever video demonstrating how fast and easy it is. That looks a lot easier than mine is to set up!
It weighs only 11lbs and is light and easy to carry in its carrying case. Soft fabric makes it snug and cozy for your child. Both the mattress cover and the bed fabric can be machine-washed. The mattress cover and all fabric parts that come into contact with your child have been approved in accordance with the Oeko-Tex Standard .
BabyBjörn is giving away 5 brand spanking new BabyBjörn Travel Crib Light’s to 5 of our lucky readers.
