one small changeYou know you’ve done it, changed a diaper on one of those baby changing stations in a public bathroom when you’ve forgotten something to lay them on.  (*cough* Dad *cough*) or you’re out somewhere with your older kids and the baby needs changing pronto in the back of the car.  We’ve been in those situations.  They inevitably pop up.  So when I learned about Journey Lights One Small Change I thought “What a cool idea!”.

One Small Change is a portable changing pad that folds up flat and can be carried with a shoulder strap or simply stored in your car for on-the-go changes.  What is really great about it is that its made with environmentally friendly materials.  The whole thing is made with Hemp and Organic Cotton, low impact dyes and an eco-friendly non-toxic textile finish to keep messes to a minimum.  Simply blot up with a towel.   All Journey Light products are manufactured responsibly without harming people or the environment.  We like that.   one small change

The center area has a compostable cornstarch foam pad insert to keep baby comfy while the side panel provides space for wipes and a few diapers.   One Small Change is machine washable and fits on standard changing tables in public restrooms with slots for the table harness for safety.  Neat!

  1. Whitney on June 2nd, 2009 8:42 pm

This is ingenious! So much better than the pad that came with my diaper bag. I love the panel that holds the diapers and wipes. I like it in the color earth.

My baby is 3 months old, and thankfully we don’t have too many public restroom experiences. I did have to change her on my lap two weeks ago. Boy was that a mistake. Needless to say I needed a change of clothes, and didn’t have any. She thought is was so funny! The portable changing station would have been perfect!

  2. Rebekah on June 2nd, 2009 8:55 pm

    I like the sky color!

  3. Jacqueline on June 2nd, 2009 8:56 pm

Earth or sunset? Hard choice! Let’s go with sunset!

  4. Jennie on June 2nd, 2009 8:59 pm

I love the design. The pockets on the side is a great idea.

I would love to get one in the “Sunset” color.

  5. Bitsy on June 2nd, 2009 9:08 pm

    I love the Earth color!

I don’t use public bathrooms often for changing… but the first time I did (As a new mommy, I was completely new to everything!) it was a disaster. I was a total germaphobe, so I didn’t want to use the straps. Instead, I kept my hand on the baby at all times. Well, changing a baby on a public changing table with one hand isn’t easy! Needless to say, I made a complete mess of it.

  6. Bitsy on June 2nd, 2009 9:11 pm
  7. Jamie on June 2nd, 2009 9:12 pm

I would probably choose Earth, but they are nice colors.

  8. Bryana on June 2nd, 2009 9:43 pm

    Sunset!

  9. Laura on June 2nd, 2009 9:54 pm

I would pick the sky color. Such a neat idea. Many times I would be so thankful at the bathrooms that had paper towels instead of blowers so I could “try” to cover the changing table with paper towels. Doesn’t work so well with a wiggling child though.

  10. Bonnie on June 2nd, 2009 10:39 pm

This looks like a great changing table (environmentally friendly materials) and the color that I like is the sunset one!!

My toddler is 20 months old and hmmm we don’t really have any horror changing stories…ok so does a bad smelling public restroom count?! To me that’s a horrible situation to be in. To have to hold your breath (you) while changing the baby and feeling sorry for them (baby) for having to smell that horrible smell!!!

  11. Becky on June 2nd, 2009 10:47 pm

I like Sky. My changing pad is too small to adequately cover public changing tables so baby invariably ends up off of it somehow. Now if we could just solve the problem of people flushing the toilets and startling the baby to tears.

  12. Brenna on June 2nd, 2009 10:56 pm

I like the sky color the best!

My worst diaper changing story was when visiting my sister-in-law’s family. My son was 5 months old. He had been holding his poop for the couple of days we were up there (not like him). We decided to get ice cream and he decides to poop (a lot!) in the car. No changing table in the restroom. We ended up changing him on the gate of my brother-in-law’s pick-up. It was a mess. This would have come in handy. ;)

  13. Brenna on June 2nd, 2009 10:58 pm
  14. Sue on June 2nd, 2009 11:15 pm

I love the Sunset. My son is 3 and my daughter is 9mths and I don’t have any disaster stories! I carry Clorox Wipes that are in the travel packs with me so I always wipe down the changing tables then put my pad on top.

  15. Becky on June 2nd, 2009 11:19 pm

sunset for sure! Love this idea!

  16. Becky on June 2nd, 2009 11:41 pm

I would pick Sunset – what a beautiful orange color. Thankfully, no horror stories just yet!

  17. erin on June 2nd, 2009 11:46 pm

    Earth definitely.

My worst changing in public story happened only a few weeks ago (not surprising since our baby is only 3 month old). I take our baby with me to my pilates class one day a week since the instructor loves babies and will often hold her during the workout. For several weeks she’d been on a six day schedule for bms. She wasn’t due for another one for another two days but she decided to change her schedule just for us.

She managed to overflow and get poo all over my instructor’s hands and when I saw that it was about to start hitting the floor I caught what I could with my hands. So here we are, two adults both with poo all over our hands; she’s holding the baby which I cannot take because I now have poo all over my hands in my attempt to save the workout studio carpet. I grab the diaper bag and we both run to the bathroom where there is a changing table at least. We proceed to get poo everywhere just trying to get the baby settled.

Fortunately my instructor REALLY loves babies…

  18. jenny on June 3rd, 2009 12:40 am

    Sunset, please!

  19. Marian on June 3rd, 2009 1:04 am

This is the most ingenious changing pad I have ever seen! I love the compartments for wipes and diapers, as well as how it is machine washable! I would choose the earth color.

  20. Victoria on June 3rd, 2009 2:14 am

Definitely Earth! I’m really liking brown and greens lately for my baby boy. This portable changing station would be perfect. So far I have been having to change my son in his stroller because I do not want to use disposable changing pads and I don’t have anything safe that I can throw in the wash. But my son is getting too big to be changed in the stroller and it is very hard to do with all the squirming.

  21. Bridget on June 3rd, 2009 2:54 am

Having 5 and 3 year olds, I have changed many a diaper in many a strange spot, but often end up in the back of the car! I am trying hard to be environmental in any way I can, so I love that this bag is eco-friendly. Love orange at the moment, so I would have to go with sunset.

  22. andrea on June 3rd, 2009 3:04 am

    Sky! Love the hue.
No single horror story, but every time my usually excellent change-ee is put on one of those hard plastic public restroom changers he screams. And screams! I put cushions under his head and try to make it quick… but man, the little guy hates those things!

  23. Victoria on June 3rd, 2009 3:25 am
  24. Christina on June 3rd, 2009 4:32 am

Agreed that these are some of the best changing pads i have seen. Very nice design. I love the Earth color but i’m not picky.

When my son was six months we were in Target and he had a mega explosive diaper, i asked my husband to run and get the diaper bag from the car. He had forgotten to grab it from the apartment! So into the bathroom i went with a now seeping through the clothes dirty diapered little man while my husband grabbed some diapers, wipes and a new outfit. I had to grab a towel off the shelf(which i later paid for of course) and tried to wait for for the goods. Only one register was open i guess because i tried to keep Van as calm & still as possible without making a bigger mess but after 10 minutes i had him stripped in the sink. Oh, the looks i got.

15 minutes later, we finally had a clean, poop free baby. We NEVER, EVER forgot the diaper bag again.

  25. sarah on June 3rd, 2009 5:14 am

    please, the colour sky!
looks like an amazing, well needed product for baby and mommy of course!
baby changing areas in public rest rooms are so gross!…and you do have to be prepared.
hand sanitizer is a must…along with some virox wipes!
i dread changing my munchkin in yucky places full of germs…and it’s not just the poop you have to worry about!

  26. Nad on June 3rd, 2009 5:32 am

I’d pick sky. Thanks for the chance!

  27. katy on June 3rd, 2009 6:10 am

    I would choose earth.
    fabulous idea!!

  28. Hayley on June 3rd, 2009 9:43 am

This looks awesome! On our last trip to visit my parents (a 500 mile drive), I remembered to keep the diapers accessible but nothing to change our 18-month-old son. He already hated having his diaper changed, and add to that the hard and questionably clean stations at McDonalds and rest stops along the way. Nightmare.

With boy #2 on the way, I’d have to choose Sky. I think the bright color will help me find it on those long car trips!

  29. Kristen on June 3rd, 2009 10:52 am

    I love the sunset color!

And as for a bathroom changing story. I love to tell the one where my newborn son peed on my husband and he had to walk around the store with a big wet spot on his chest! :o ) He got better at the “quick” cover up of the boy parts when changing a diaper after that happend!

  30. Karen on June 3rd, 2009 12:56 pm

I love them all, but my favorite is the sky.

I recall any horrible public bathroom changing incident. One that does stick in my mind is when my son(about 12 mths at the time) decided that he wanted to stand to have his diaper changed. It was a little hairy since the tables are about 4 ft of the ground and my son son does not have very much fear, but I made it through okay.

  31. Meghann Phillips on June 3rd, 2009 12:57 pm

Earth wins my vote! What a cool product!!

  32. Heather on June 3rd, 2009 12:58 pm

    Sky!

  33. Kasie G. on June 3rd, 2009 1:24 pm

I would love the sky changing station!

  34. Tracey on June 3rd, 2009 1:31 pm

    Definitely Sunset!

  35. Karen B on June 3rd, 2009 1:41 pm

    I, too, love the sunset.
I don’t have nearly so funny a story – but trying to juggle baby and pad roll and poorly maintained changing table is likely a shared challenge.

  36. stephanie g on June 3rd, 2009 1:51 pm

This is great. Had to change the little one at a big retail store recently…got in there, took her pants & diaper off & then realized my diaper bag had somehow spilled out back in the car & we were missing clean diapers & our changing pad…the sunset is a winner here too!! love their other items too…

  37. kel on June 3rd, 2009 2:03 pm

    I love the sunset color!

  38. Patty on June 3rd, 2009 2:05 pm

    I love the sky color!

I’m not sure I have any good changing table stories, though I do remember changing my son when he first started walking in a one room bathroom and the table was far from the sink. When I put him down, he ran over an immediately stuck his arm in the toilet, which had no lid, up to his elbow! Needless to say, I spent about 10 min scrubbing him off and changing his shirt, and there was a LONG line when we finally left.

  39. Barbara Friant on June 3rd, 2009 2:13 pm

I like the sunset color, very bright. Luckily no horror stories yet, but I certainly cringe every time I have to use them, although most of the time I change her in the car if I can.

  40. Bethany on June 3rd, 2009 3:32 pm

Really neat idea! I like the sunset color.

  41. Ana on June 3rd, 2009 3:57 pm

The Sunset color is great. It matches my diaper backpack.

I hate using public bathrooms to change my son, but sometimes I just have to do it. I tried covering with paper towels, but it is hard when the baby moves so much and likes to play with the sides of the changing station. I go nuts because these stations are always so dirty.
There was one bathroom that had disposable liners, and I used those. In fact, I took a bunch and kept them in the bag for future use. :0)

  42. Katie on June 3rd, 2009 3:58 pm

I would choose the seed color.

  43. Ephi on June 3rd, 2009 4:21 pm

    earth for me please…

  44. Emily B. on June 3rd, 2009 4:41 pm

I would choose the sky colour. I don’t have any restroom disasters… yet!

  45. Melissa on June 3rd, 2009 4:58 pm

Oooh, Earth is a nice, well, earthy color!

  46. Dana on June 3rd, 2009 5:17 pm

I like them all but I would chose earth.

  47. Claudia on June 3rd, 2009 5:50 pm

I love the handy compartments and the earth friendliness. I would choose sunset.

  48. alex on June 3rd, 2009 7:02 pm

Earth! Finally a place to put everything without having to touch too much!
I don’t like using public bathrooms, but if you really have to and there is no changing station…what do others do? I used a booth one time…fastest change ever.

  49. Sara on June 3rd, 2009 7:54 pm

I like Earth the best. I don’t have any horror stories – yet!

  50. Nicole G. on June 3rd, 2009 8:13 pm

  51. Claudia M on June 3rd, 2009 8:31 pm

Sunset is my favorite time of day and color!

  52. Melanie Chelpka on June 3rd, 2009 9:25 pm

I would choose the Earth color. Thanks for the chance to win.

  53. Amanda on June 3rd, 2009 10:53 pm

I like the sunset color the best! I bought a changing contraption similar to this one but I like the compartment on the side that holds the diapers and wipes! Who would’ve thought? ha ha!

  54. Queenie on June 3rd, 2009 11:33 pm

I would like the Earth color One Small Change Portable Changing Station. Thanks!

  55. Keri on June 4th, 2009 1:02 am

    I love the seed colour!
My horror story is one that anyone has with or without a baby. Gas station restroom. Need I say more? Ick!

  56. Amy on June 4th, 2009 1:18 am

Finally! Something compact so everything you need fits inside the compartments! I absolutely love the colors…but I think Earth color is my favorite.

  57. Laura on June 4th, 2009 3:17 am

    I like the sunset color.

Hmm. Can’t think of anything specific, but we have had plenty of public restroom diaper change situations on questionable changing tables. I used to just lay down a blanket or the changing pad that came with my diaper bag. Now that my daughter is 16.5 months and squirmy as anything, these methods don’t work.

If I get too sceeved out by the changing table I spray it down with my hand cleaner, wipe it down with paper towels and then line the table with more paper towels. I hate using all that paper and would love to have the one small change to avoid all that waste.

  58. Jodi on June 4th, 2009 4:28 am

I’m expecting my first baby in July. My husband is a singer/songwriter and we travel a lot. Needless to say, I have used my fair share of public restrooms. yuk. Our plan is to take our little guy on the road w/ us and the thought of even having to carry him into a public restroom disgusts me! Having a One Small Change would definitely ease my germaphobia! If I could chose a color, I’d go with sky!

  59. Coccinelle on June 4th, 2009 8:47 am

I would choose the Seed one!

  60. Jennifer Hofmann on June 4th, 2009 1:55 pm

I wish they would have come out with this tons earlier! I know so many Mommy’s and Papa’s that would have loved this. In fact I think I know what I’m getting my friend as one of her gifts to welcome their new little one to be.

As for me… I would choose Sunset all the way!

Oh, and Papa put his opinion in as well… Sunset too!

  61. Colleen Pate on June 4th, 2009 3:29 pm

I would love one in the Sunset color.

    Airport changings are the worst!

  62. KAri on June 4th, 2009 3:43 pm

I would choose “earth” because my husband would use almost anything brown.

Diaper changing stories. OK, my first was tiny, little, infant as they come. I ran into the bathroom at the restaurant we were in only to realize they had no changing table. I looked over at the sink (still new to Mommyhood, I was in shock that some places still didn’t realize we don’t like to change our babies on the floor in the bathroom), no counterspace. What to do. Aha! Bright idea hit me. I sat on a toilet in the handicap accessible stall and placed said baby boy on my lap (you can see where this is going can’t you?). I pulled his diaper off while balancing diaper in my mouth, wipes in one hand, baby with the other, and bag on my knee because they also didn’t have a purse hook in the stall. (how 1700’s can we get people) I quickly placed the new diaper on him, but not quick enough, pee everywhere. By everywhere, I mean all over me! Yes, my shirt was drenched. I brought extra clothes everywhere we went, but only for baby boy, not for Mommy. I learned to hit my mark in the bathroom years ago. I gave up. I put the diaper on the baby, sauntered out soaking wet (I did try to blot it with a wet paper towel) and told my husband I was finishing my meal (only the second time we had been out with baby in public). I scarfed it down, while he held the baby, and the waitress brought our check, staring at my shirt. I was nearly about to tell her how I would never return, thought this was a horrible restaurant, and they were terrible to do that to poor Moms when the tears down my cheeks reminded me that hormones were flowing and I just needed to leave. Yeah. Well. That’s not even my worst diaper changing story, but the other one is far, far too gross.

  63. Patricia on June 4th, 2009 5:25 pm

    I love the sky colour!

Our best public washroom horror stories actually happened in Germany with my 1.5 year old. When we travel, my daughter’s eating and BMs get all out of wack. We were driving from Austria to Germany and stopped for lunch. In the middle of lunch, my daughter finally had a BM after a few days. We had been giving her stuff to help her have a BM, so it went from hard to really liquid quit quickly. I rushed my daughter off to the bathroom, getting poop all over me. We managed to go through 2 outfits of my daughters, and one outfit of mine. There was a mess in the bathroom. My husband had to rush to the car, unpack our bags and get new clothes for all of us!

  64. Sherean on June 4th, 2009 5:42 pm

I’m lovin the One Small Step in Sunset. Chic and functional– just how all baby accessories should be if you ask me! Public bathroom changings are the worst. And of course, my little one usually requires a change when the only bathroom available is some gross gas station joint where the floor is wet and toilet paper is strewn everywhere. Gross!

Love sunset. Wow! what a cool product. I’m always amazed at how few places have a changing station to begin with and when they do I don’t always want to set DD on it. I end up juggling her and the stuff while madly trying to wipe down the table with wet wipes. To top it off, there’s rarely a garbage can within arms reach of the changing station.

  67. Sarah on June 4th, 2009 9:15 pm
  68. Melody on June 4th, 2009 10:04 pm

Sunset! No horror stories, but it would be handy for changing in all those odd places like the car, the trunk of the car, the park, whatever semi-flat surface you can find…

    Sunset

  70. ecky on June 4th, 2009 11:44 pm

    i love sunset!
horror story: trying to change my daughter on my lap in a restroom while squatting because there was nowhere to put her…and she had pooped. it was not pretty.

  71. Tracy LeBon on June 5th, 2009 12:33 am

I alllllways forget my disposable pads to place sweet baby on to change and end up doing it in the back of my car! This is a nice idea…and lovely colors (and names for the colors too.) I like the seed color.

  72. Multi-Tasking Mommy on June 5th, 2009 12:45 am

I would definitely pick SKY, blue is my favourite colour AND I have a boy!

Oh man, I can’t think of any particular diaper change horror story, but I will share my pet peeves….

I hate it when there is nowhere to hang your diaper bag and you have to put it down on the grown in a washroom stall while you change your baby who is trying to roll themselves off of the change table.

I don’t like that the hinged/fold down tables often bend over time and they end up almost like a slide for your baby.

I don’t like it when the trashcan is at the opposite corner of the change table and you have poopy wipes or a poopy diaper to get rid of.

CLEARLY Moms didn’t design these change areas!

Thanks for the contest. Those change pad/systems look AWESOME!

  73. Deb on June 5th, 2009 1:03 am

Earth! I love brown and pink for my girls!

This would be PERFECT for us – we do a 20 hour road trip every summer to join our family for vacation … so our 2 year old has been changed in LOTS of places I’d like to forget. This summer, we have 2 in diapers. Oh boy!

  74. Ben on June 5th, 2009 1:10 am

even dads love this idea! i like earth.

  75. Kim on June 5th, 2009 6:54 am

I like the earth color! thanks :)

  76. Lisa on June 5th, 2009 10:59 am

I like all the colors. I would have to say sunset, though.

We travel quite a bit, so when I was pregnant I was on the hunt for something like this. I found something that meets my needs, but this looks a bit roomier. I’ve changed many diapers in airports, planes (which I don’t even like to use), restaurants, and restroom. And I’ve often found myself with no changing table or something that looked right out of the dumpster.

    Thanks again SafeMama!

  87. Kara on June 6th, 2009 2:03 am

I like the sky one. Here’s my “horror” story. Recently, at a baby shower (in a hall) I went to change my son. I grabbed my gear and off I went. A not-so-responsible (sigh) friend decided that it was time to change her son too and followed me to the restroom. There was no changetable, but a staff person nearby told me there was counter in the mens room. So in there we went. I laid out a receiving blanket (for some cushioning) and on top of that change pad and preceeded to change my son. After changing him and picking him up, my friend said “can I put {her son} on there?” and laid him down before I could answer. EWWW! So, while I really would like one of these change pads, if I win I just may have to give it away to my friend who lacks sense (and a fear of germs evidently)!

  88. Rachel T on June 6th, 2009 3:26 am

I like seed. I don’t have many horror stories because I’ve changed my baby’s diaper in a public restroom exactly once, and the table was so hard (I didn’t have a nice padded changing thingy like this!), I now always hunt out more comfortable alternatives or just change her in the car.

  89. Tiffany on June 7th, 2009 12:00 pm

I would choose Earth…goes with everything! My little one hasn’t been born yet, so our horror stories are yet to come! :-)

  90. Rebecca on June 7th, 2009 5:52 pm

I would love to have the Sunset color! My son is 21 months now and SO squiggly! It is getting more difficult to avoid public restrooms. He wants to touch EVERYTHING. It would be great to win one of these!

Just changed my baby on a sideboard with blinking flourescent light above it in the bathroom…ugh!

I would choose it in Sky. Please enter me in your giveaway.

I like sky or earth. All the colors are great really. I don’t have a horror story to share yet, my little one is due in 2 weeks. We are so excited.

  94. Penelope on June 8th, 2009 3:19 am

I like earth, and I’m expecting, so no horror stories yet :)

I think I would definitely go with the Earth color because it would probably hide stains a lot better and it looks manly! I don’t have any public restroom horror stories yet because I’m a soon to be Daddy but I’m sure I’ll have some soon. Thanks for the giveaway!

What a great idea and so neat! I have gone to restrooms where there is no where to change your baby and your only option is a blanket on the floor! Not sanitary or ideal!

I love the sunset color. It’s so vivid and cute!

I would love the sunset color.

I like the sky blue color! My horor story is one I imagine other moms may have wrestled with – what to do when YOU need to go potty! My son had finally gotten used to life in the Moby Wrap during a trip grocery shopping when I had the sudden urge to go. Imagine trying to hold a sleeping baby up high enough to wriggle my jeans button fly open, then go to the bathroom, wipe, and snap back up, all while making sure the ends of the wrap didn’t hang in the toilet, my pants didn’t wriggle too far down my legs so as not to be able to pull them up, and do it all while not waking the baby! I woke him up that time, but soon perfected it after many more attempts!

What a great idea! I refuse to use restroom diaper changing stations because I can’t get over how dirty they must be. Even just thinking of it makes my stomach churn. This diaper changing station looks GREAT and what I like most is that it covers the whole changing station. If I had one of these, I would probably use the diaper changing stations in restrooms!!!

I would choose the Earth color.

    I’d choose sky.

I love the Earth color! This would be so great for changing diapers in airplane restrooms!

  104. BB on June 9th, 2009 11:31 am

I love the sunset color. We don’t have a changing table, and the pad that came with the diaper bag is starting to fall apart!

  105. Rachel on June 9th, 2009 4:00 pm

I particularly like the sunset color, but they’re all great! I’d love to try this out. Thanks!

I’d like the earth color. as for public restroom horror story… i can’t think of any major one yet but when we went to the outlets and I had to change the baby, baby was terrified when lying on the changing table in the bathroom stall. I don’t think she felt secure in it and hearing all the strange noises of flushing toilets.

Wow! How great – you can’t beat what it’s made out of. Colorwise: can’t go wrong with Earth.
